Vote
Voting in local and national elections is a guaranteed right to citizens.
CSU encourages all students, faculty and staff to use their voices and vote.
To be eligible to vote in Colorado, people must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be 18 years old or older by Election Day (but people can register to vote as early as age 16)
- Live in Colorado at least 22 days before Election Day

Fast Fact
You can register to vote online or update your registration and still receive a mail-in ballot up to eight days before the election in which you intend to vote. After that, you can register to vote or update your information at a voter service or polling center and vote in-person until 7 p.m. on Election Day when polls close.
CSU students vote
Students can vote in their college towns.
CSU students have a higher voting rate than their peers, with 76.4% of CSU students voting in the 2020 election, well over the national average of 66% of college students who voted across the nation.
In Colorado, all eligible registered voters automatically receive a mail-in ballot, if their registration information is available in time. This gives you the option to vote by mail, in person or by dropping your ballot in a ballot box.
Register to vote or update information
Students from Colorado
- Students from any state who are eligible to vote can register through register to vote through All-In to Vote, an organization dedicated to helping students vote in elections.
- Register to vote in Colorado at the state’s website through a few easy steps using the last four digits of your Social Security Number or your Colorado ID.
- Register in person at your county clerk’s office, by mail, at a Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles location, or during a voter registration drive.
- Update your voter registration information. You must update your voter registration each time you move.

Ways to vote
Once you’ve registered to vote, you can cast your ballot by:
- Mail. Fill out and mail your ballot through the U.S. Postal Service before Oct. 25.
- Absentee voting. Every state offers mailed ballots. Check the rules for your home state.
- Polling location. You can fill out your ballot at the Voting Center in the Lory Student Center, or drop the ballot you received in the mail at a ballot box location on Main Campus.
- Find a Voter Service Center in other Colorado locations.

- 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28 – Saturday, Nov. 2
- 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 5, Election Day
CSU Main Campus ballot dropbox
On Main Campus, a Colorado ballot dropbox is located outside the north entrance of the Lory Student Center.
Important Dates
- Friday, Oct. 11: Ballots begin being mailed out to registered voters and 24 hour ballot dropboxes begin opening.
- Monday, Oct. 21: Voter Service and Polling Centers begin to open and in-person voting begins.
- Monday, Oct. 21 – Monday, Nov. 4: Early in-person voting in Colorado.
- Friday, Oct. 25: Last day to register to vote or update your voter registration online to receive a ballot in the mail (after today, you should visit a Voter Service and Polling Center to register or update your registration and vote in-person).
Recommended last day to get your ballot in the mail (if voting by mail to ensure it is received by 7 p.m. on Election Day – postmarks don’t count). - Tuesday, Nov. 5, Election Day: Voting closes at 7 p.m. – voters should be in line at a Voter Service and Polling Center or ballot dropbox by 7 p.m. Deadline to register in-person.
